Summer is officially over. We now head into the fall season with fond memories of splash-worthy family time spent by a refreshing pool. Just because you’re not actively using the pool during cooler months doesn’t mean that you should ignore it. Here are a few ways to perform a pool wellness check this fall to keep it in top-notch shape.

Activate Your Equipment

If your pool equipment has been idle for a few months, turn it back on. By equipment, we mean the filter, pump, heater, and any other mechanisms that keep your pool running. If you notice something isn’t running properly or if you hear abnormal noises, give us a call so we can come out to repair it pronto!

Examine Water Levels

Next, check the water levels of your pool to make sure it’s at an adequate height. Your water level should fall in the middle of the pool skimmer. This helps to protect your equipment and avoid any future issues.

Skim the Pool

It’s best practice to skim the surface of your pool once a week. It also gives you a chance to check for any unwanted debris that might cause serious damage to your pool. If you have the time, run your vacuum, and check the pool filter and filter basket.

Check the Water Chemistry

Once your pool is nice a clean, you can effectively test the water. You can call us to check your water chemistry to make sure it’s within the proper range or purchase an at-home test. Standard pH levels should be between 7.4 and 7.6. Chlorine levels should be between 3 and 4 ppm. And lastly, water hardness should be between 150 ppm and 400 ppm.

Check the Surface

Check your pool’s surface for any signs of stains, wear and tear. Pay special attention to the surface around the drain, lights, and concrete pads around the pumps. If you see a crack, call us immediately. Cracks that are not fixed properly or in a timely manner can lead to costly repairs down the road.
