There’s nothing better than spending time enjoying the pool with family and friends. The pool provides a cool place for relief from the hot summer heat. However, spending extended periods of time in the sun can cause overexposure to your skin, resulting in burns and other serious skin conditions. We are sharing sun safety tips so that you and your family can enjoy your time poolside without the risk of overexposure.
A great way to prevent sun exposure is to wear protective clothing to cover your skin. This includes long dark or bright colored sleeve rash guards, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses. For areas that are hard to protect with clothing, use sunscreen to reduce harmful UV rays. And don’t forget SPF protection for your lips!
Normally, being shady isn’t the best thing to be, but when it relates to sun safety, it’s all good! Seek shade throughout the day and take breaks from the natural UV rays. Try to stay out of the sun from 10am to 4pm, when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
The UV Index is a scale used to determine how strong the ultraviolet radiation (UV) is in a particular place during a particular time. The scale runs from 1 (low) to 10 (extremely high). Most use the UV index as a guide for planning appropriate sun protection. For example, if the forecast shows a UV index rating of 9, you may want to make wear protective clothing and stick to shady areas if outdoors.
