Summer has officially arrived and while swimming in the sunlight is a blast, there’s just something about a night swim that we love! With the possibility of some upcoming night swims in the next few months, you need to make sure that your pool is well-lit at night so you can see what’s happening in and around your pool. Here are a few tips to make sure your pool lights are ready for any night swims this summer!

Check Your Pool Lights

The best thing to do first when preparing your pool lights for summer is to check to make sure that they actually work. If you’ve had some LED lighting installed recently, then you shouldn’t have a problem with your bulbs as LEDs are highly rated and last a long time. If you have halogen, or another other older type of lights, then you should go ahead and check your lights as soon as possible. This step is relatively simple. Just turn the switch on and see if the lights come on. If they don’t, then it is time to replace the lights in your pool.

Cleaning Your Pool Lights

Once you’ve ensured that your pool lights still turn on, check the quality of the light itself. The light should shine through clearly, so if the light appears hazy or dull, consider giving them a clean. There is a possibility that algae may have found its way in between the pool light lens and the lens cover. If a gentle cleanse isn’t making any change in the brightness of the lights, and the cover looks like it has seen better days, consider replacing the entire light to make sure they are performing the best that they can!

Clarify Your Pool Water

Debris and other floating particles in your water can affect the quality of the light within your pool as well. These particles will diffuse the light, which gives your pool a hazy look, even if your lens and lens covers are clean. Clarifying your pool water will not only clean your pool a little more, but make your pool lights shine even brighter!

If you’re using a pool sand filter, the easiest way to clarify the water is by using a Crystal Cube Pool water clarifier. Just place it in your skimmer and it should deal with the tiny particles that would normally just go through your sand filter and cloud the pool water.

If you use a cartridge filter though, the best way to clarify your pool water is to make sure that your cartridge filter is working the best that it can. Soak your filter cartridge in some filter cleaning solution to remove the dirt and debris trapped in it.
